10 claps from me. Man, you articlulated *exactly* what I’ve been thinking about GVF the last 5 or 6 months, and in a damn thorough and interesting way! When I read that GVF frontman quote in your piece that Zep “ wasn’t an overwhelming influence of ours,” I literally LOL’d (just as you did a few paragraphs later). I was so damn curious about them, as they’ve skyrocketed to fame in recent times, that I grabbed their albums … it’s absolute Zeppelin influence, 100%. Hell, 1000%. I’m actually pretty conflicted about it, being a life-long Zeppelin fan. On the one hand, they’re good at what they do. But, is it original enough? IDK … sometimes when a newer band can pull off another band’s sound, I actually DO like it — because they do it in kind of a clearly influenced way, a definite, intentional nod to the masters, an homage… And, in the right context, I freaking love it. Like, there’s a band called Black Mountain that has put out some Pink Floyd-type vibes (listen to their “Space to Bakersfleid” for example) … or, like how the band Thee Oh Sees can pull off tha early Floyd pastoral psychedelic sound of Floyd an/or so many others in the genre. But, those bands ALSO have their own distinct sounds. GVF is … just Zeppelin. The thing is… if they came to town, would I see them? … Actually yes. I’d have to see it in person. But, again, I’m still conflicted and not sure if I dig ’em or am annoyed by them.
