I also prefer long-term partnerships, but don’t mind gigs sometimes. I’m not particular about the terminology, really, although I get your point. :-) One thing I never do, though, is compete on price. If anything, a gig would / should likely reflect higher-than-usual rates, at least. Often, at least for me, “gigs” are consulting engagements where something is broken, and they want/need it fixed asap, which has value. But, yeah, if someone’s looking for a one-off web site on the cheap…I don’t even entertain such things.
