Man, this is something I’ve been facing for years, as well. I like to think of myself as highly organized, but years of switching computers, literally tens of thousands of digital photos, new hard drives, jump drives, phone backups, work files, backups of ancient email accounts … the list goes on. Oh, and MP3 hoarding… that alone is ridiculous on my machines & the various backups of them. Someday when/if ginormous multi-terabyte memory chips are available, and when huge blocks of data can be moved among them quickly & easily, maybe organization will be easy. But, as it is now, it seems hopeless. Just backing up my photos onto another drive takes like half a day — and that’s if I’m lucky enough for the operation not to crash. Great article, though! Lots of good ideas there & also some good comments. :-)
