Not that I advise this, but…about the “free work” thing, a person *could* legally offer spec work to a company, correct? Like, an aspiring illustrator could approach company X and say “Hey there, I’m an artist and I need experience. I think your branding / logo could be improved, and would like to present you with some drawings to consider.” Again, it’s not something I would do, but at least it could potentially help out beginners w/ building a portfolio. And, if the company likes them, the artist could sell them the designs. At least with some careers, it does seem like a viable potential option for getting a foot in the door. Spec work would be different, I would think, from full-on “working for free” (even though that’s also kinda-sorta what it is, in some ways). IDK… thoughts?
